SURGE SUPPRESSION PROGRAM and WARRANTY

Chimney Rock currently provides surge protection on its primary lines up to and including the high voltage side of the distribution transformer.  Due to the increasing susceptibility of customer electronic equipment to low voltage surges, Chimney Rock intends to promote and encourage the use of whole house surge protection-utility grade surge arrestors at the meter or at the main panel designed to provide high energy protection and used in conjunction with low energy point-of-use surge suppressor strips.

SURGE SUPPRESSION SERVICE. Chimney Rock will make available to residential customers an enhanced surge protection service.  The cost of this service will be $2.00 per month in addition to the current basic general purpose customer charge.  For subscription to the optimal service, Chimney Rock will install and maintain a meter base surge suppressor, and will evaluate the customer service entrance and equipment grounding with recommendations and estimates for necessary improvements.  It will be the customer'’ responsibility to make any improvements.

A manufacturer’s warranty will be available to the customer-at no additional charge-for surge damage to electromechanical devices such as electrical motors and resistive devices and, if used in conjunction with suitable low energy suppressor strips, for surge damage to electronic devices such as computers, microwave control panels, and vcr’s.  Claims for damage will be made by the customer to the manufacturer in accordance with the terms of the warranty.

2+SURGE SUPPRESSION PACKAGE. Chimney Rock will supply a manufacturers package of point-of-use surge suppressors to be used in conjunction with the subscription to the Surge Suppression Service.  Customer may purchase the package directly or may choose to pay monthly  for 12 months.  At the customer’s option, other surge suppressors from the approved list may be substituted for the manufacturer’s package.

GROUNDING & BONDING.  Not all voltage disturbances are caused by distribution system or lightning surges.  The service entrance panel and equipment to be protected should be properly grounded in accordance with the National Electric Code.

Chimney Rock will provide the labor, equipment and materials to install a service entrance grounding system including grounding conductor, rod(s), and bonding for the actual cost incurred.

EQUIPMENT PURCHASE. Chimney Rock will make available for sale through our electrical suppliers, utility grade surge arrestors intended for use at main panels and a variety of low energy point-of-use surge suppressors for plug-in, telephone jack, and coaxial cable connections.  These devices will be recommended for use where the meter location isn’t optimal for providing full surge protection-such as remote pole or pedestal meters, and for special purpose requirements at the option of the consumer.  Customer information on the available equipment including price lists, warranty information, literature, and display models will be maintained at Chimney Rock’s office.  Manufacturer warranty requirements will be the responsibility of the user.

SCHOLARSHIPS

With the assistance of Basin Electric Power Cooperative and Tri-State G&T, CR currently gives one $1000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships to the dependents of consumers.

GEOTHERMAL HEATING/COOLING SYSTEMS

Since the mid-1970's, tens of thousands of homes and businesses in the U.S., Canada and Europe have been heated and cooled by a system that bridges the gap between high technology and energy savings -- the geothermal heat pump.  Consumers are searching for a better way to get more out of their energy dollar. Many have found their answer to be the geothermal heat pump. For more information call Chimney Rock at (308) 586-1824.
